Early Life and Education

Born on September 5, 1905, in Budapest to Russian emigrants, Arthur Koestler initially studied science at the University of Vienna.

Political Engagements

In 1926, inspired by Zionism, Koestler traveled to Palestine. He later worked as an editor in Germany for the Ullstein newspaper group, where he covered the Arctic expedition of the Graf Zeppelin airship in 1931.
